FAQs
How effective is learning coaching online through a self-study format?
Our e-learning platform offers comprehensive access to all course materials, including reading materials, downloadable PDFs, audio and video tutorials, and other essential resources for working with clients. The course is meticulously designed to support both coaching and personal growth, incorporating elements that facilitate both coaching application and self-application.
Central to becoming an impactful coach is the enhancement of self-awareness and personal responsibility. Engaging deeply with the course materials allows you to reflect on and apply the principles to your own development, building the self-awareness necessary to effectively support and inspire others.
In addition to the self-paced learning, you will benefit from a structured support system comprising four Group Training Calls and two 1-to-1 Coach Development Calls with experienced coach training facilitators. The Group Training Calls provide collaborative opportunities to delve into weekly modules, engage in discussions, and gain insights from both peers and facilitators. The 1-to-1 Coach Development Calls offer personalized feedback on your pre-recorded coaching sessions, helping you refine your skills and develop a tailored plan for continued improvement.
This blend of self-paced learning and personalized support ensures a well-rounded and effective coaching education, equipping you with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to excel as a coach.
What types of support will be available to me during the Life Coaching Essentials (LCE) course?
Group Training Calls
Over the course of four weeks, you’ll participate in Group Training Calls led by your course facilitator. These sessions offer a collaborative setting where you and your peers will explore the key concepts and practical applications of the weekly module. You’ll engage in discussions, analyze coaching scenarios, and gain insights from both the facilitator and your fellow participants.
1-to-1 Coach Development Calls
In addition to group sessions, you’ll have two 1-to-1 Coach Development Calls. For these, you’ll submit a pre-recorded coaching session to your course facilitator. They will provide detailed, constructive feedback, highlighting your strengths and areas for improvement. During the live calls, you’ll discuss this feedback with your facilitator to refine your skills and set a plan for ongoing development.
Having a dedicated course facilitator provides not only expert guidance but also serves as a crucial motivator. Their support helps you stay engaged, overcome challenges, and make consistent progress, ensuring that you achieve your learning goals and build a strong foundation in coaching.
What can I anticipate from the three Group Training Calls included in the Life Coaching Essentials (LCE) course?
The three Group Training Calls (GTCs) are spaced across the journey to support your learning, reflection, and integration.
For the June cohort, these take place in July, August, and October. For the January cohort, the GTCs are scheduled for February, April, and May.
Each call builds on your progress through the program.
It is recommended to complete the initial six units before the first GTC, followed by six additional units before the second GTC, and the final seven before the third GTC.
The suggested pace is of one unit per week. This rhythm is designed to keep you engaged with the material, reflect on your insights, and begin to integrate your learning into everyday conversations.
The calls themselves are interactive spaces to deepen your understanding, clarify concepts, and learn through shared experiences and peer shares within the cohort.
What can I anticipate from the two Coach Development Calls included in the Life Coaching Essentials (LCE) course?
The two Coach Development Calls are pivotal to enhancing your learning experience by offering personalised feedback and fostering the development of your coaching skills.
The first call should be scheduled after GTC 2, and the second is to be scheduled within a month following GTC 3.
As part of this process, you will submit a pre-recorded coaching session to your Course Facilitator. You will receive detailed feedback highlighting your strengths as well as areas for improvement.
In the subsequent live call, you’ll discuss this feedback with your facilitator, focusing on how to build on your strengths, address areas for growth, and develop a tailored plan to continue refining your coaching skills.
These structured calls ensure that your learning is not just theoretical and conceptual, but grounded in real practice, with actionable insights to elevate your effectiveness as a coach.
Will I have opportunities to practice coaching during the Life Coaching Essentials (LCE) course?
Absolutely. Developing as a coach requires consistent, real-world practice, and this is a core part of the program. As part of the course requirements, you will engage in the following:
Peer Coaching Sessions
You will coach a peer in two separate sessions, allowing you to apply what you’ve learned in real coaching conversations, reinforcing your skills and helping you build confidence.
Receiving Coaching
You will also be coached by a peer in two sessions. This gives you the experience of being in the client’s seat and offers valuable insight into different coaching styles and approaches.
Recording and Feedback
As part of the two Coach Development Calls, you will record two coaching sessions and submit them to your course facilitator. You may choose to use your peer coaching sessions for this purpose or record additional sessions. You will receive detailed, constructive feedback to help you refine your approach and deepen your coaching skills.
These practical elements ensure that your learning is not just theoretical, but grounded in real-world experience, equipping you with the foundational skills needed to coach with confidence and effectiveness.
Is it necessary to enrol in the Deep Coaching Intensive (DCI) Program to take Life Coaching Essentials (LCE)?
While you can choose to take just the Life Coaching Essentials (LCE) course, we generally recommend progressing beyond it for a more comprehensive learning experience. Think of LCE as learning to drive a car and being satisfied with just a learner’s license. It covers the fundamental principles of coaching, but the real depth and transformative impact of coaching come from the advanced techniques and insights provided in the Deep Coach Intensive.
The Deep Coach Intensive is designed to build on the basics taught in LCE and introduces advanced coaching approaches and strategies that significantly enhance your practice. It offers a deeper exploration of coaching techniques and provides you with the tools to create more profound and lasting changes for your clients.
That said, you should pursue what feels right for you at this moment. If you’re drawn to LCE now, it’s a solid foundation. You can always choose to expand your learning and dive into deeper coaching methodologies like those offered in the Deep Coach Intensive later on, as your comfort and interest evolve.
Is it necessary to enroll in the Deep Coaching Portfolio Program to take Life Coaching Essentials (LCE)?
You are not required to enroll in the Deep Coaching Portfolio Program to take Life Coaching Essentials (LCE), but we highly recommend it. The Deep Coaching Portfolio Program is designed to help you accumulate the necessary coach training hours required for applying for the ICF Associate Certified Coach (ACC) credential.
The Deep Coaching Portfolio Program comprises two key components: Life Coaching Essentials (LCE) and the Deep Coaching Intensive (DCI). Together, these courses provide you with the 60 Continuing Coach Education Units (CCEUs) needed for the ACC application.
If you choose to enroll solely in LCE, you will gain valuable foundational coaching skills, but you will not receive the CCEU certificate until you also complete the DCI course and fulfill all related requirements. Enrolling in the Deep Coaching Portfolio Program ensures a streamlined path to achieving both the necessary training hours and the CCEUs required for your ACC credential, providing a comprehensive and cohesive coaching education.
What if I have completed the DCI, but later want to upgrade to Deep Coaching Portfolio Program?
The LCE allows you to receive the necessary Continuing Coach Education Units (CCEUs) for your ACC credential, it’s important to be aware that to obtain the required CCEUs, you will need to complete both LCE and DCI.
However, if your aim is to fully explore and master the range of coaching approaches and techniques, progressing through both LCE and DCI will provide a comprehensive and enriching learning experience.
Engaging in both components will equip you with a deeper understanding and a broader set of skills, enabling you to make a more significant impact as a coach.
Regardless of your choice, we welcome you to join the course. Just be mindful of your intention and how it aligns with your long-term coaching goals.
If I enroll in the Deep Coaching Portfolio Program, is it necessary to complete Life Coaching Essentials (LCE) before starting the Deep Coaching Intensive (DCI)?
LCE covers the essential fundamentals of coaching. Our experience suggests that participants with some background or foundational knowledge of coaching tend to find the Deep Coaching Intensive (DCI) more accessible and easier to integrate. Therefore, while it’s not mandatory, we recommend completing the Life Coaching Essentials (LCE) course before starting DCI.
If you’re new to coaching, or if your schedule permits, registering for LCE early and beginning yourself paced studies as soon as possible. There are a total of 16 modules and a healthy recommended pace is 1 module per week. This will allow you to gain a solid understanding of coaching principles at a manageable pace.
This preparation along with your presence in the three Group Training Calls and completion of your Coach Development Calls with your Training Facilitator will enable you to fully engage with the material and participate effectively in the DCI.
You can begin Life Coaching Essentials as soon as you sign up, giving you the flexibility to pace your learning according to your needs and readiness.
Does Life Coaching Essentials provide guidance on aspects of building and growing a coaching business?
Yes and no.
Yes, Life Coaching Essentials (LCE) does provide you with essential tools, techniques, and models to help you start coaching effectively. This initial step is crucial for building your coaching practice, as it equips you with the skills to actively coach and engage with clients.
No, however, the course itself does not focus on the broader aspects of building a coaching business. The fundamentals covered in LCE are centered on coaching practice rather than business development, which encompasses additional skills and strategies.
That said, LCE does include valuable guidance on a key aspect of establishing a successful coaching practice: enrollment conversations. Mastering these conversations is crucial for attracting and retaining clients, and the course ensures you develop this foundational skill.
Additionally, LCE offers a range of practical resources such as intake forms and relationship management templates. These tools are designed to help you present yourself as professional and organized, enhancing your credibility and supporting the smooth operation of your coaching practice.
What is the recommended structure for completing the Life Coaching Essentials program?
While the Life Coaching Essentials program is self-paced, we strongly recommend following a structured approach to optimise your learning experience and stay on track.
The program consists of four modules, each with multiple units. The recommended pace is to complete one unit per week.
Module Completion:
Module 1: is titled Coaching Foundation & it is recommended that you complete all 3 units (16 Lessons) of this module before attending the first Group Training Call (GTC).
Module 2: is titled Communicating Effectively & it is recommended that you complete all 6 Units (18 Lessons) before the second GTC.
Modules 3 and 4: are titled Co-Creating the Relationship & Environment and Cultivating Learning & Growth, respectively. We suggest you aim to complete all 10 (17 Lessons) units across both the modules between the second and third GTCs.
Group Training Calls (GTCs):
These are pre-scheduled and must be attended live. Please block your calendar in advance, as attendance is required as part of the course completion.
- For the June cohort, these take place in July, August, and October.
- For the January cohort, the GTCs are scheduled for February, April, and May.
Peer Coaching:
As part of the course completion, you need to complete a minimum of two peer coaching sessions as a coach and two peer coaching sessions as a client. This is a core part of your learning & practice as a new coach. We suggest the:
- First round: Complete one session as coach and one as client between the second and third GTCs
- Second Round: Conduct this immediately, both as a coach & a client, after the third GTC.
Beyond the minimum requirement, feel free to practice coaching as much as you would like, both within the cohort & outside
Coach Development Calls (CDCs):
To enhance your learning experience, we suggest scheduling one CDC after the second GTC and another CDC after the third GTC
While this structure supports steady progress over approximately six months, you will have access to the e-learning platform for a full year, allowing flexibility to revisit and deepen your learning at your own pace.
